Championing mental health with Student Minds and Kortext

We’re excited to announce that for the second year running, Kortext has partnered with Student Minds, the UK’s leading student mental health charity, to support students as they navigate their way through university.

Student mental health today

With roughly 1 in 3 students suffering clinical levels of psychological distress during their time at university, and university leaders naming student mental health and wellbeing as a top strategic focus for the future, this partnership could not come at a more crucial time for the UK’s 2.8 million students.

The recent Advance HE Student Academic Experience Survey revealed that 30% of students had considered leaving their course in 2022, and a significant 34% of these students cite mental or emotional health as a reason for this. In fact the survey describes mental health and wellbeing as a continued “area of concern for students, who often report that the support they need was not there when they need it.”

Support at the point of need

Founded in 2009, Student Minds’ has an unwavering commitment to students and universities, empowering them to develop the knowledge, confidence and skills to look after their own mental health, support others and create a culture of change that continues to destigmatise mental health so no student feels alone.

Our donation and subsequent partnership ensures that students in distress have access to information and mental health support at the point of need, by including a direct link to Student Minds’ online support hub, Student Space, through the Kortext student bookshelf.

Originally set up to help students through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Student Space  signposts students to national support services, useful information and a direct 24/7 text support service, so finding and asking for help doesn’t feel so daunting.

Why is Student Minds important to Kortext?

Kortext facilitates content access and engagement for over 2 million students at 2,300 universities worldwide. With the Kortext Arcturus platform, we empower universities in their mission to educate the next generation of difference makers, so naturally we’re invested in the student journey and understand how mental health can shape that experience – for good and bad.

Robin Gibson, Marketing Director at Kortext, said:

“We’re extremely proud to once again be partnering with Student Minds, supporting the fantastic work they do to elevate the subject of student mental health in higher education. The research is clear, students are struggling and we need to be an ally to our university partners and their students by offering support where we can.

“By promoting the Student Space on our platform, raising awareness of the help Student Minds can offer, and getting involved in fundraisers and events, we can play our part in helping students manage their stress, reduce anxiety and ultimately enjoy a better, happier and more supported university experience.”

A spokesperson from Student Minds commented:

Here at Student Minds we are thrilled to be renewing our partnership with Kortext for another year. Without corporate support, a lot of the essential work that we undertake would not be possible and we would not be able to reach as many students. Student Minds takes great pride in the organisations that we work with and greatly appreciates the efforts that our partner organisations make to help improve student mental health across the UK.

If you’re a student struggling with issues related to mental health, you can visit Student Minds for free information, advice and support or access the Student Space directly through your Kortext bookshelf.
