The Kortext Academic Advisory Board provides advice and insight to help Kortext continuously improve the student learning experience, student engagement, learning interventions and outcomes. Board members are senior leaders and researchers in leading universities.
The group was founded in 2021 to enable Kortext to improve the way in which we help students succeed in achieving their aspirations.
Kathy has extensive experience of leadership and research in education and professional learning. At UCL, she is responsible for education leadership, the quality of student experience and developing lifelong education. Kathy has previously held posts at Birmingham, Brunel and Loughborough.

Kelly joined the Richmond American University London after previously holding posts in Sussex and with the King’s College London. She is on the editorial boards of several prominent journals, including Teaching in Higher Education and the Journal of Education Policy.
Margaret has pioneered the use of computers in education since 1969, and was awarded an OBE in 2001 for outstanding contributions to the field. She is an international expert on technology in education and its impact on teaching and learning.

Heidi joined JISC in 2021 and her priority is to ensure it stays innovative and focused on the needs of students, educators and researchers. She has 25 years’ experience of leading change at universities, including Sheffield, York and St Andrews.

Dr Sal Jarvis
Sal has responsibility for the strategic leadership and development of learning and teaching at Westminster. Before this, she was Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience at Hertfordshire. Sal has also worked in primary, further and adult education during her career.
Professor Kay is a special advisor to the Vice-Chancellor at the University of Exeter, after stepping down as Provost and Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Exeter. Her notable contributions to higher education were acknowledged with a CBE in the 2017 Queen’s New Year Honours.
Diana is the Chair of Learning with Digital Technologies, UCL Knowledge Lab. Before this, she was Head of the e-Learning Strategy Unit at the Department for Education and Skills. Diana was previously the PVC for Learning and Teaching with Technology at the Open university.

Matthew is responsible for the strategic direction of the library, student well-being and enquiry services at Middlesex. He is leading the Student Experience element of the University Strategy 2031, which includes using technology to anticipate student needs and promote student support.
Tracy is responsible for ensuring that students at York have an intellectually stimulating, relevant and well supported teaching and learning experience, as well developing online teaching at the university. She has previously held a number of senior leadership roles at York.
As Vice Principal (Education), Professor Stephanie Marshall is the strategic lead on Degree Apprenticeships at Queen Mary University of London. Stephanie was previously Chief Executive Officer of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) from 2013 to 2018.

Professor April McMahon is Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students at the University of Manchester. April’s academic field is linguistics. She is a Fellow of the British Academy, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and the Learned Society of Wales; an Honorary Fellow of Selwyn College Cambridge; a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy; and was Deputy Chair (Academic) for the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023.
Debbie is editor of Wonkhe, the home of the higher education policy debate. Previously she was Chief of Staff at Universities UK, Director of Policy at the University of Bedfordshire, and Head of Policy at NUS.
As well as Professor of Innovation and Knowledge Exchange, Jonathan is President of Kellogg College, and an Honorary Norham Fellow in the Department of Education at Oxford. He has many years’ experience in leadership roles at several universities.
Anthony has worked in several senior roles at LSBU, prior to his current position as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience). His passion for understanding and promoting inclusivity and equality connects his research and his learning and teaching roles.
Sir Tim O’Shea was Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Edinburgh from 2002 to 2018, and was knighted in the 2008 New Year Honours. His prolific academic output includes10 books, 22 BBC television programmes and over 100 journal articles.
Angus Paddison is ProVice–Chancellor at the University of Winchester and haspreviously worked in research positions at the Universities of Gloucestershire and Nottingham respectively. Angus is an expert in theology and studied at the University of Cambridge.
Tim is responsible for delivering the University’s Education Strategy at Exeter and he seeks to innovate and enhance the educational experience of students. His portfolio includes widening participation, digital transformation and supporting and enabling educators. Before this, Tim held various leadership positions at Exeter.
David has been ARU Principal since 2012. Before this, he was Executive Director and Dean, following many years as a senior academic at the university. He has led change at several educational organisations, including a primary school and an academic community.
Professor Mark Simpson is ProVice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching) at Teesside University, where he has held various positions dating back more than 26 years. Mark has conducted extensive research into the relationship between drug use and crime in young people.
