The term ‘therapy’ relates to the actions which attempt to remediate a health problem. In the medical field, therapy is also known as treatment; nevertheless, therapy can be also synonyms of care and intervention, as all these terms overlap in a semantic field.
Therapeutics refers to the treatment and care of a patient with the aim of preventing and combating a disease as well as alleviate the pain or injuries.
Therapeutics include both the management of the disease as well as the prescription of activities such as specific exercises and diet. Furthermore, in specific cases, therapeutics include the use of drugs to relieve pain or surgery to remove affected tissues or replace organs.
Therapy and therapeutics are strictly related to preventive medicine, which is a branch of medicine, that attempt to identify the individuals risk factors and eliminate them to prevent the disease.
In prevention medicine, there are three prevention levels. The primary prevention includes activities which seek to eliminate the disease before its development. The secondary prevention is the early detection of the disease before the appearance of the symptoms. Finally, tertiary prevention has the aim to stop or limit the spread of the disease that is already present.
