This subcategory covers the general issues surrounding technology and the other sections under Technology, Engineering & Agriculture.

Typically, technology is broken down into four methods, they are as follows:

  • Principle: The laws and facts of nature which underlie the working of an artificial device, also known as a fundamental law, doctrine or assumption.
  • Process: The art or method of something, which also includes the new use of a known process, machine, manufacture, composition of matter, or material.
  • Nomenclature: This is the act or process of naming a system or set of terms or symbols, especially in a particular science.
  • Application of Science: The use of scientific knowledge within technology is extremely extensive. It is used to either design a product, process, or for medical treatment. Developing new technologies is the key use for science within this field.

Distinguishing technology from science and engineering is not as clear as you might think, right? Well, science is the systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation. Technologies are not products of science, only because they have to satisfy requirements such as usability and safety. Finally, engineering is a goal-oriented process, concerned with the design and making of tools and systems to exploit natural phenomena for practical human means.
