By browsing this Kortext category, you will find a wide range of digital textbooks related to technology, engineering and agriculture.

Technology refers to a body of knowledge that can create tools, process actions and extract materials. Nowadays, people use technology in everyday life to complete their daily tasks and extend their capabilities.

Individuals use technology at work, to communicate, for transportation, learning and to secure data.

Additionally, many businesses are using technologies to compete in their market, create new products and services and deliver their goods to customers.

Technology is always evolving and improving because of the constant change of the customers’ needs and demands which is also the cause of the shifting from an industrial age to an informational one.

Engineering is defined as the creative application of science, mathematical and empirical evidence to innovation, construction and design.

The term engineering has existed since the ancient time when individuals were creating objects such as wheels, pulleys and wedges. The term engineering comes from the 'engineer', a concept that was indicating a constructor of military engines.

Engineering as a discipline has been firstly adopted during the ancient era, where civil structures such as the Pyramids in Egypt, the Acropolis in Greece and the Colosseum in Rome have been built. Subsequently, in the 18th century, the term engineering has been associated with a profession.

Engineering is a is very broad discipline and is divided into several branches that are: chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Chemical engineering is the application of physics, chemistry and biology to implement chemical processes on a commercial scale; civil engineering focuses on the building of public and private infrastructures and it is divided into three sub-disciplines: structural engineering, environmental engineering and surveying; electrical engineering concentrates on the study of electronic systems such as electrical circuits, electronic devices and optical fibres; finally, mechanical engineering designs and manufactures physical or mechanical systems.

Agriculture is the art of cultivating a land, breeding animals, and growing plants to produce goods which sustain and enhance people's lives. Agriculture has ancient origins as the discipline has developed independently in different parts of the world more than 105,000 years ago.

There are different types of agriculture: pastoralism, shifting cultivation, subsistence farming and intensive farming. The term pastoralism is related to the management of domesticated animals and is practised in arid zones such as the regions of Sahara, Central Asia and various parts of India.

Shifting cultivations consist of the process of cutting down forest trees to create an area where to cultivate crops. When the land becomes less fertile, farmers leave this area and to look for another one. This type of agriculture is developed in the northern regions of India, Southeast Asia and the Amazon Basin.

Subsistence farming is the act of cultivating a land to produce goods which satisfy a single family or a small community. It is intensively adopted in Monsoon Asia and South-East Asia.
