The term ‘public administration’ refers to the implementation of government policy, as well as the academic discipline which prepares civil servants to work in the public field. Public servants, who are not elected in the government, are considered part of the public administration as they work for the public good. These individuals can be head of a city, of a country or of a state, as well as municipal directors, city managers and cabinet secretaries.
This discipline is based on six subfields which are human resources, policy analysis, statistics, budgeting, ethics and organisational theory.
Students who want to become professional in public administration usually have to get an MPA degree, although in some universities an MA in Public administration is awarded. The goal of professionals in public administration improving equality, justice, security efficiency and effectiveness of public services in order to achieve the public good.
Currently, there are different international public administration organisations, including the Commonwealth Association of Public Administration and Management (CAPAM), the International Institute of Administrative Science (IIAS) and the Network of Scool of Public Policy, Affairs and Administration(NASPPAA).
