Programming consists of the process to build a computer program which can be executed by a machine to accomplish specific goals. This process includes different tasks which are analysis, generation and implementation of algorithms in specific computer languages.

The result of programming is a program which has to be reliable, robust, useful, portable, maintainable and efficient.

To implement tasks, programs manipulate number and texts which are known as variables and can be managed singly or in a collection. Traditionally, to implement a program on a computer, the language of the program should be the same as the platform-supported languages. However, with the introduction of Java, nowadays, it is possible to write a program which can be run everywhere as it is written in the so-called bytecode and run on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

The most popular languages utilised by programmers to develop computing programs are Visual Basic, Delphi, C, C++, C#, Cobol, Fortran, Objective-C, Swift, Pascal, Java and Python. Each programming language requires knowledge of their rules and syntax to be used.

A scripting language is a programming language that supports scripts. Scripts are programs that are written for a specific environment that automate the execution of the tasks. Environments which can be automated by scripting languages are software applications, web pages and shells of operating systems.

Scripting languages are usually intended to be very fast to learn and write. Therefore, they have a simple syntax and semantics.

Sometimes scripting languages are related to a very high-level programming language as they operate on a very high level of abstraction or as control languages. As well as this, they can range from a domain specific languages to general purpose programming languages.
