It is the subject area in which you will study everything you need to know before observing disease and illness in patients. Most of a students time at university will be spent concentrating on the science that underlies medicine, in order to better understand what they will be dealing with out in the field. You will be given opportunities to put into practice everything you have learnt in the classroom by working with real patients’ experiences of health issues.
Communication skills is an area which is given a great deal of consideration too, with the hope to develop and improve the vocal skills needed in order to interact successfully with patients.
Significant emphasis will be put on patients’ perception of illness and the personal and social factors relating to this, the relationship between the patient and their understanding of their underlying disease, inter-relationships between various organisations that provide support for patients, and the use of reflection in learning clinical medicine.
The human anatomy will be covered intrinsically too, with every student having to know the human body inside out. It deals with the way human parts, from bones to molecules, interact to form a functional unit.
