This link creates a connection to the switching system of a mobile phone operator which gives access to the public switched telephone network. In addition to telephony, mobile phones allow users to send text messages, MMS, have access to the Internet and send and receive emails. Furthermore, by using mobile phones, users can run business applications, play games and take photos. Mobile phones which have those capabilities are called feature phone; instead, those phones which offer computing capabilities are known as smartphones.
The first mobile phone was demonstrated by Martin Cooper and John F.Mitchell in 1973. In 1979, the company Nippon Telegraph and Telephone developed and launched the first cellular network in Japan. In 1983, the first mobile phone was commercially available, and between 1983 and 2014, mobile phones subscriptions worldwide grew over to seven billion. Finally, in 2016, smartphones become popular thanks to Samsung, Apple and Huawei.
