Without manufacturing, many things we take for granted would be absent from society. It rests upon the idea of transforming raw materials into products that can be used. There are different sections in manufacturing industries such as clothing and textiles, petroleum, chemicals and plastics, electronics computers and transportation, food production, metal manufacturing and wood, leather and paper.
Clothing and textiles are produced by companies processing raw wool, cotton and flax to make products such as clothes, outerwear, upholstery fabrics and bedding. The material, NOT the product, is the centre of defining this particular sector of manufacturing industries.
Turning chemicals, coal and crude oil into products that be used by society is the core of the petroleum, chemicals and plastics industry. They are also responsible for making soaps, resins, paints, pesticides and also medicine.
Electronics, computers and transportation are all closely related, but often treated as different sectors of manufacturing, but one thing they all have in common is they all require a direct power source. Within this sector, you’ll find appliances, microprocessors, semiconductors and audio-visual equipment. All automobiles, trains and planes also come under this form of manufacturing.
Food production is concerned with agriculture, including all forms of food production, such as farming as well as work such as canning and purifying.
Metal Manufacturing belongs to heavy industry, while the others mentioned above are generally considered light industry or consumer-oriented industry. This includes all forms of metals such as iron, aluminium and steel as well as forging, coating, stamping and engraving!
Wood production includes all forms of housing manufacturing, as well as sawing and marinating. Under leather industries, you’ll find tanning and curing, but not leather clothes as that falls into the clothing manufacturing category. The paper production is sourced by the cleansing of raw wood pulp and recycling it into paper products.
