By browsing this Kortext category, you will find books related to lifestyle, sport and leisure.

Firstly, lifestyle consists of interests, opinions, and behaviours of an individual, group or culture. It is a combination of both tangible  (e.g. demographic variables) and intangible factors (e.g. individual psychological aspects).

A lifestyle typically reflects a person's attitudes and values which can be personal or influenced by social and technical systems.

Secondly, the term sport indicates all forms of competitive physical activities or games aiming to use, maintain or improve the individual physical ability and skills. In our society, there are more than 100 sports which can be divided into team sports or individual sports. Sports are usually governed by a set of rules which regulate the competitions and permit a panel of judges to acknowledge the winner of a race.

It has been recognised that sports became popular more than 3,000 years ago when they were associated with the individuals’ preparation and training for war and hunting. Nevertheless, more common sports such as human races, wrestling and jumping have become prominent in 776 BC during the first Olympics.

Thirdly, leisure is a term that indicates a quality of experience or free time spent away from work, job hunting and education. Leisure firstly become popular in England and then it has spread in the other rich European nations. Traditionally, the term was related to the rich upper-classes as they were the only ones who could spend money and have time off from work.

Nowadays, several types of leisure activities, which range from very informal hobbies to highly organised and long-lasting activities, have been recognised. The most popular ones are serious leisure activities, casual leisure hobbies and project-based leisure pastime.

Serious leisure activities are defined as substantial and fulfilling hobbies which differ from casual leisure activities as they have a high-level of engagement.

Casual leisure hobbies are a type of activities which are immediately rewarding and do not require any special training to enjoy them.

Project-based pastimes are short-term activities that are carried out in people’s free time.
