International law consists of a set of rules which are related and accepted as mandatory in relations between states and nations. The discipline is a framework that helps in maintaining stable and lasting international relations.
International law differs from state legal systems as these laws are applicable to the whole countries rather than to private citizens.
National law can become international law when the treaties nominee a national authority to supranational tribunals.
Most of the international law is consent-based governance. Therefore, state members are not obliged to accept the international law, unless they have consented to a specific course of conduct. Nevertheless, other elements of the international law are obligatory and must be accepted by all the states.
There are three types of international law which govern the activities between nations. These are public international law, private international law and supranational law.
The public international law includes those laws, principles and rules which focus on the conduct of nations, states and international organisations among themselves. As well as this, it regulates the relationships among these entities with political and natural individuals.
The private international law is a set of rules which focuses on the relations of private citizens of different countries. It outlines the regulations and rights of private citizens of different countries.
The supranational law is a form of international law which focuses on the rights' limitation of sovereign nations between one another. In this discipline, countries submit the right to take juridical decisions by agreement to a group of common tribunals.
