Family law is a field of law which deals with family issues and domestic relations. This type of law focuses on different aspects including marriage dissolution, paternity and child custody, domestic violence, juvenile problems, emancipation and approvals of underage marriages.
Marriage dissolution means the end of a conjugality. The family court terminates marriages through the divorce process or annulment cases. As well as this, the court deals with issues related to properties, child custody and support.
In case a man wants to declare his paternity, he can ask the family court to determine his fatherhood. For unmarried cases, the individual can also request the court to recognise the child legal and physical custody. As well as this, he can ask for the visitation days and the child support.
Family law covers also acts of domestic violence. In this cases, victims can ask the court to issue protective rules to prevent the offender from getting close to the victim.
Furthermore, the family court deals with issues related to the change of a name. Children or adults can ask the court to legally change their name.
Family law covers also the guardianship issues. In this context, the family court is responsible to determine who is the person responsible for medical, personal and financial decisions over a child or individual who can't look after himself/herself.
Additionally, family law deals with the termination of parental rights and adoptions. Indeed, if there are proven reasons why a parent should not have a parental relationship with a child anymore, the family court can terminate the parental right. As well as this, the court can create legally parent-child relationships in case of adoptions.
The family court focuses also on juvenile matters such as child abuse and cases where minors adopt illegal conducts.
Finally, family law deals with cases in which minors would like to marry or be emancipated.
