The term ‘electricity’ refers to a set of physical phenomena related to the presence and the motion of matter which has an electric charge. At first, electricity was not associated with magnetism. Then, over the years, experiments and the development of Maxwell’s equation shown that both electricity and magnetism come from a single phenomenon: electromagnetism. There are different phenomena that are associated with electricity including static electricity, lighting, electric heating and electric discharges.

The presence of either a positive or negative electric charge produces an electric field; the movement of electric charges is called electric current and generates a magnetic field.

Electromagnetism is a branch of physics which focuses on the electromagnetic force. This is a physical interaction that occurs between particles which are electrically charged. The electromagnetic force exhibits electromagnetic fields including magnetic fields, light and electric fields. As well as this, this force is vital to determine the internal properties of daily-life objects. Furthermore, the electromagnetic force is one of the four fundamental forces of nature.

Finally, magnetism is a class of physical phenomena which are characterised by magnetic fields. These fields are generated by electric currents and the magnetic moments.
