Our economics section has been carefully whittled down into further smaller categories to really localise your area of specific studies, such as environmental economics, international economics, macroeconomics and microeconomics. As you’ll see, these are just a select few of what we have to offer here at Kortext, with eBooks and digital textbooks covering a wide range of economic topics.
Fundamentally, the study of economics is a social science that explores the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. It concentrates on how individuals, governments, companies and nations make choices on allocating their resources and attempts to judge how these groups should distribute and organise in order to achieve the most efficient output.
The study of economics is broken down into two categories:
Microeconomics: The study of you! This area of economics focuses on individual producers and consumers and their financial decisions. These individual consumers include a single person, a single household, a government or business. Microeconomics is interested in how these individuals trade with one another, to how prices are affected by the supply and demand of goods. The efficiency and cost associated with goods and services, the division of labour and how it’s allocated, uncertainty risk and strategic game theory are all also studied.
Macroeconomics: As the name suggests, this is the study of the overall economy! This can include a country, a continent and even the entire world. Areas covered in this category are government fiscal and monetary policy, unemployment rates, growth as reflected by GDP (Gross Domestic Product), business cycles, recessions, depressions and booms!
