Dance is a performing art which consists of a series of human movements, which have both an aesthetic and symbolic purpose. Dance is usually related to different cultures and due to its choreography, it relates to various historical period and place of origin.

The discipline is usually divided in theatrical dance and participatory dance. The theatrical dance consists of a performance on a stage, where dancers use mime, costume and scenery to communicate a story. Examples of this dance are the ballet and the modern dance.

The participatory dance consists of a performance with social and exercise purposes. Example of this type of dance is folk dance, social dance, and group dance.

In addition to dance, other performing arts include music, opera, theatre and musical theatre, illusion, mime, magic, spoken word, puppetry, circus art and performance art.

Music is an art form which combines three elements- pitch, rhythm and dynamic- to create sounds.

Musical theatre is a theatrical performance which combines dialogues, spoken dialogues, dance and acting. It usually narrates content full of strong emotions such as pathos, humour, love and anger.

Magic and illusions are performing arts in which audiences are entertained by tricks or illusions. Magic is one of the oldest performing arts in the world.

Mime is a performing art where actors use their body without using any speech to communicate the story.

Spoken word instead is a performing art based on words. It focuses on both intonation and voice inflexion to communicate the emotions within the plot.

Puppetry is a form of performance which consists of manipulating inanimate objects, known as puppets, to narrate the story.

Circus skills consist of a group of actions which are performed to entertain people in circus shows.
