The cooking origins date back to more than 2 million years ago when people were preparing food with the use of heat or fire. Afterwards, with the expansion of agriculture, trade and commerce, cookery has evolved permitting people to access new ingredients and technologies.
Cooking involves the use of different ingredients such as vegetables, fruits, grains, herbs, eggs, meat, dairy products, as well as water, minerals and salts.
The term ‘food’ refers to any substance consumed by individuals and which provides nutritional support to the organism. Food derived mostly from plants and animals and contains essential nutrients including carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals and vitamins. Food is at the base of the cells activity and provides humans with energy, capable to stimulate their growth and keep them alive.
The term ‘drink’ refers to liquid intended for human consumption. The main purpose of drinks is satisfying thirst. Nevertheless, drinks play a crucial role in different cultures. Common types of drinks include water, tea, coffee, milk and soft drinks. However, also alcoholic drinks are very popular including, wine, liquor and beer.
