Comparative politics belongs to political science and is that political field which adopts an empirical approach based on the comparative method to study different topics. This methodology belongs to the four fundamental scientific methods and is used when neither the experimental nor the statistical method can be used.
Comparative politics concentrates on domestic politics, political institutions and conflicts which occur among countries. Furthermore, the subject is usually focused on different countries as it tries to understand the differences and similarities.
Comparative politics is also applied to specific fields; in this case, the discipline may have other names such as comparative government or comparative foreign policy.
This discipline is considered one of the oldest field of political analysis which has influenced different political philosophers thoughts and views. As well as this, comparative politics relates to Aristotle as he was the first who used comparative methodologies to analyse and understand principles and problems of Greek cities. Afterwards, other political philosophers have started adopting the comparative method for analysing and showing their point of views about politics.
In the 20th century, comparative politics received the interest of various political scientists such as Ogg, Munro, Almond, Blondel and Apter.
