Children’s fiction is a literary genre that consists of all those books which are written for children and with children in minds.

There are different forms of children's fictions which are picture books, early readers books, chapter books, middle-grade novels and young adult books.

Picture books consist of written works with illustrations which are fundamental to narrate and understand the story. Generally, those titles are addressed to children between 4 and 8 years old.

Early readers or easy-to-read books are titles addressed to those children who are starting reading on their own. These books usually have colourful illustrations on every page and are broken into short chapters. These titles are addressed to 6-8 years old children.

Chapter books are those titles written for 7 to 10 years old kids. They are considered transition books as they help children to shift from early readers titles to full novels. Most of these books narrate contemporary situations that are well-known by the reader.

Middle-grade novels are addressed to children between 8 and 12 years old. These books describe different topics which range from contemporary to historical subjects and from science to fantasy topics. Contrary to picture books, they do not use any image to narrate the story.

Teenage fiction is another term to indicate young adult novels which are generally books read by children from the age of 12 upwards. These titles are usually longer than the middle-grade novels and narrate different topics. Most of these titles focus on contemporary stories and problems which are common among teenagers. Additionally, teenage fiction normally considers modern world perspectives such as cultural, social and gender diversities.

Young adults novels have different purposes. Firstly, they want to teach adolescents about people diversity and the world beyond their communities. Secondly, they outline a wide range of human emotions which allow teenagers to experience them as a result of the reading process. Thirdly, they increase the teenagers’ literacy and ability to analyze literary works.
