A belief system is a set of principles or ideology that helps people to understand everyday reality. This system can have different forms which range from religion to politics, and from philosophy to spirituality. These beliefs are influenced by different aspects such as people’s knowledge and education.
The common religion beliefs systems are theism, monotheism, pantheism, panentheism, deism, misotheism, dystheism, ditheism, polytheism, animism, atheism, and agnosticism.
Theism supports the view of the existence of one or more divinities, which transcend the universe. These gods interact with the universe and they are omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent.
Monotheism supports the fact that only one God exists. God is considered as an eternally existent being that lives apart from space and time, is the creator of the universe, and is omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent and omnipresent.
Pantheism is the belief which supports the statement that God is the nature of the physical universe.
Panentheism supports the idea that the physical universe is joined to God but God is greater than the universe. Therefore, God interpenetrates every part of nature and extends beyond. Nature is part of God but is not all of God.
Deism is a form of monotheism which supports the idea that one God exists but does not intervene in the world. Therefore, the universe runs itself according to the natural laws.
Misotheism is the belief in a God or gods which are actually evils. Dystheism, as well, supports the fact that a God or gods exist but they are not good.
Ditheism is the belief of two gods who have the same power, and they are in constant opposition.
Polytheism believes in multiple gods who are similar to humans in their personality traits but have individual powers, ability, knowledge and perceptions.
Animism supports the idea that souls are in most of the objects. The discipline doesn’t accept the distinction between spirit and matter.
Atheism upholds the fact that gods do not exist. Instead, agnosticism is the belief that asserts that the existence of nature and gods is unknown and can’t be proved.
During the 19th century, there has been a growth of new religion belief systems. Most of these new groups have origins from political theories or recent world tradition.
