Largest Take-Up of Core Digital Textbooks in the United Kingdom Delivered To the University of East London and Regents College in Partnership with Kortext

(Ringwood, UK ) 8 January 2013 - John Smith’s today announced that, in partnership with Kortext, it has engaged with the University of East London and Regents College to deliver core textbooks in digital and print formats to over 2,000 students.

These deals have seen these institutions select core texts that have been delivered directly to students through the John Smith’s Aspire programme. It is believed to be the largest deal of its kind, representing well over £1m in institutional textbook purchasing to support student learning and success.

These innovative support programmes from Regents College and the University of East London worked with John Smith’s as their delivery partner as these free book programmes compliment the student bursary schemes both institutions deliver via Aspire.

In both instances students have been given access to up to six core textbooks in digital and print formats with the digital textbooks being delivered via Kortext.

Kortext, focused on the UK Higher Education market, offers on-line and offline access to key textbooks from multiple publishers, combined with a set of tools that provide the user with functionality beyond anything a traditional textbook can offer. It is device agnostic, providing the student with a mobile learning environment.

Brian Hipkin, Dean of Students at Regents College commented “John Smiths remains ideally positioned to work with institutions and publishers at ensuring adopted key textbooks would be made available. We felt their approach was a particularly good fit to our institution because of the blended solution it provided with the Kortext digital textbook offering.”

Caroline Summers, UK Trade Sales Manager at Palgrave Macmillan pointed out “The Aspire model was different to others, enabling students to access reading list material, including core textbooks, making the learning experience more relevant to students. We especially felt that Kortext’s offering is a significant step towards addressing student’s changing portability needs.”
